Why food rescue matters
Good food belongs on plates, not in landfill.
- We rescue quality surplus food before it becomes waste
- We stock free community pantries and host shared meals
- We support anyone doing it tough with food parcels
- We reduce food waste and emissions in every region we serve
Every week, perfectly good food is thrown away while families in the same neighbourhoods struggle to fill the fridge. Love Soup exists to close that gap.
Since 2013, our volunteers have collected surplus food from supermarkets, growers and suppliers, sorted it with care, and shared it through community pantries, shared meals and local support networks.
We keep it human. Our teams live in the communities they serve, and everything we do is built on manaakitanga: welcoming people, feeding people and treating everyone with dignity.
Community impact you can count.
Powered by volunteers, local supermarkets and generous suppliers in every region we serve.

Frequently asked questions.
What is food rescue?
Food rescue means collecting good quality surplus food from supermarkets, growers and suppliers before it is thrown away, then redistributing it to people and communities who can use it. It reduces waste and helps families at the same time.
Who can use the community pantries?
Anyone. The pantries are free and open to the whole community. We simply ask that you take only what you need for your household and leave some for others.
How do I request a food parcel?
Food parcel availability varies by region and demand. The best first step is to follow your local Love Soup Facebook page or contact your local team, who can let you know what is currently available and how to order.
Is the rescued food safe to eat?
Yes. Everything we rescue is checked and sorted by our trained volunteers before it is shared. We only pass on food that is good, safe and fit to eat.
How can my business donate surplus food?
Get in touch through our partnership form and your local team will arrange collection. We can set up regular scheduled pickups or one off collections, and we handle food safely from door to door.
Are donations tax deductible?
Love Soup Charitable Trust is a registered New Zealand charity, registration number CC49692. Financial donations of $5 or more are eligible for a donation tax credit, and we can provide a receipt.
Together, we feed people, not landfill.
Whether you have food to share, time to give or a business that wants to make a difference, there is a place for you at Love Soup.
